Confessions of a Former Daily Fantasy Virgin: Tom Turkey Edition

I got in on the action this week, and there still are 13 games to go. My adrenaline’s pumping like a cat who just consumed a six-pack of Pepsi Max. I have to get some skin in the games.

That’s how I felt at about 11 a.m. on Thursday, filling out three 50/50s in Fan Duel. I did one 55k, one 60k, and one 65k. I was glad I did, because in my local keeper league, a must-win situation, I started Nate Burleson (last-minute add over TY Hilton), Eddie Lacy, and the Ravens defense. No turkey hangover can compete. My teams and finishes:

QB: Matt Flynn
RB: Le’Veon Bell, Lacy
WR: Calvin Johnson, Rod Streater, Nate Burleson
TE: Mychal Rivera
K: Justin Tucker
D: Lions

I finished 19th in that one, thanks to Tucker and the Lions D getting almost half of my points. Sometimes the cheap defenses pay off.

QB: Tony Romo
RB: Bell/Jennings
WR: Calvin/Nate/Streater
TE: Jason Witten
K: Justin Tucker
D: Detroit Lions

I finished 7th, thanks again to the Calvin/Lions/Tucker trio. When I had more money to burn, I didn’t do as well.

QB: Matthew Stafford
RB: Jennings/Murray
WR: Calvin/Antonio Brown/Burleson
TE: Witten
K: Dan Bailey
D: Steelers

I was out of the money by 2.5 points. Witten wasn’t worth the TE bonus. In this league, I lost because I didn’t hit the D/K jackpot. Oh yeah, and Nate Burleson wasn’t even targeted. The only time I saw him all day was on a run block. Nice work, pizza man.
